The most famous characteristics of Tangqi market is the Langyan Street, which covers the whole town.
The porch eaves of the old pond are a beautiful scenery line of the market, brimming with rich amorous feelings of the watery region and marveling at the south of the Yangtze River.The Qing Dynasty poet Wang Shi once wrote a poem describing the porch eaves of a pond. The poem said: "Rubbing one's shoulders together and tracking each other, passepartout with a long profile on the right and wrong, is absolutely good to go out without getting in the way of rain, and does not need a hat to learn from Poweng."This poem vividly shows people the pond's verandah. The winding and straight verandah connects the whole town into one piece. You don't need Dai Li to wear it even when it rains.
Meirenkao
Tang Qi's Langyan Street, on the side near the river, has a "Meirenkao" matching with Langyan Street, which is quite unique.
These "Meirenkao" are actually long and unique wooden benches.The pew pond dwellers were originally called "rice beds" because they did not stop for pedestrians at first, but served the pond rice market.Tangqi used to be a famous rice city with a prosperous radius of 100 miles. The streets are full of rice shops. All kinds of ships are indispensable for rice transportation and delivery. The bench along the river has become a place for rice collection and selling. Merchants pile up some basketry bags on it, so it is called "rice bed".
Teahouse
Tangqi used to have many teahouses, which were divided into morning, Yan and evening markets.In general, morning markets are farmers who go to market, selling their agricultural products while drinking tea at the same time.Yan City is mostly a literati and businessman boss.In the evening market, it was to work hard and small citizens become the protagonist.
The teahouse in Tangxi in the old days has another feature, that is pingtan singing.Generally ,early markets do not sing, while Yan and late markets both sing.In Tangqi teahouse, Suzhou books are sung, while Hangzhou books have no market.It is said that when talking about "Pearl Tower" in those days, when talking about Cui Ping girl going up stairs, it took 18 days to go up 18 stairs and one day to go up 1 stair, which is amazing.
Residence
In the past, Jiangnan bazaar was called " No Huizhou merchants, no market".Tangqi is no exception.Huizhou merchants once flourished in Tangqi, and many buildings in Tangqi town were also influenced by Huizhou architecture.
At present, there are not many great houses in Tangxi, among which the surviving old house of the Taishidi Longzhuo family is a representative.The Zhuo family's old house in Taishidi Lane is a Ming dynasty building with five entrances, three rooms wide and surrounded by bank up walls. The main gate is Shikumen with eaves and brick carvings.Each entrance to the inner courtyard has a partial door that communicates with the "Taishi Dinong" to allow people to enter and leave everyday. The interval between each entrance is 15 meters.Now the first two entries are basically well preserved, and with a little renovation, they can still show their former elegant demeanour.
Lane
Lane is a kind of architectural feature of Jiangnan market town, which used to have many lanes.The ancient town of Tangqi is especially famous for its "72 and a half lanes".Tangqi lane is mostly covered with bluestone and granite which are not easy to slip. The high-rise walls of bank up on both sides are covered with vines. Stepping on a loose stone slab will make a "crash" sound and echo.
Most of the old Tangqi lanes were attached to the unique cross-street eaves of Tangqi. "when you go out, you can see lanes, and when you cross the street, you can make lanes communicate with each other." nan sha "in lanes is a distinctive feature of Tangqi Lane in residential buildings.Today's preserved Tangqi lane has gradually eliminated its "embarrassing" feature with the development of town construction, and ancient lane has become a nostalgic object.
Stone bridge
In the past, when it comes to Tangxi, the bridge has always been said to be "36 beds and a half".Most of these bridges are in various shapes and styles, which make the whole old town of water villages look full of vitality. Most of these bridges have now been demolished, and some of the remaining bridges have already changed their structure and status and have become concrete bridges, which have ceased to exist in the past.Fortunately, the Guangji long bridge across the Beijing-Hangzhou grand canal is still there, and the weather-beaten long bridge is still lying on the river, pouring out to you the splendor of the old bridge township and the elegant demeanour of the old bridge township.
